The University of Queensland has performed outstandingly in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2015 evaluation in areas covered by the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.

Of particular note, UQ received the best rating of any Australian university for its research in the field of social work.

The Australian Research Council awarded UQ the only mark of 5 for social work – regarded as well above world standard.

Across the, Executive Dean Professor Bruce Abernethy said that UQ received the maximum rating of 5 (well above world standard) for eight of nine research categories.

“Even compared to other Australian institutions inside or close to the world’s top 50 universities, that’s an outstanding result,” Professor Abernethy said.

“While we offer particular congratulations to our Social Work researchers, across the board we have matched and exceeded our previous performances across all core areas.

“This is testament to the research effort and capacity of the entire Faculty.”

Aside from social work, other fields where the Faculty received the maximum grading of 5 (well above world standard) were dentistry, nursing, psychology, neurosciences, clinical sciences, human movement and sports science, and pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences.

In its first time of being evaluated, UQ Nutrition and Dietetics scored a rating of 4, defined as above world class standard.
